WSJT Ver.5.x.x Console
WSJT Console window is used to display error messages (for debugging purposes) and Sound card Audio Input / Output selection. You can minimize it and generally ignore it. You should, however, look there for messages if the program crashes. This also shows the audio channels available for use by WSJT program and displays those selected. The screenshots below shows the WSJT Console depicting single and dual sound card selections.

WSJT Ver5 Console - Single sound card Referring to the screenshot from WSJT Ver.5.x.x. Console (left) you will see 4 columns :
  • Audio Device - The number assigned to each Audio Device in your PC
  • Input Channels - The number of channels for each Input Device
  • Output Channels - The number of channels for each Output Device
  • Device Name - The assigned Device Name
In the example each Input and Output device shows 2 channels. This corresponds to Left / Right channels of a stereo sound card. WSJT has selected Audio Device no.0 as Input Device and Audio Device no.2 as Output Device.
This is how it appears in WSJT Options Window. This can be changed using the Options settings, explained in the Dual Sound cards section below.
WSJT Console - Single Sound Card.
WSJT Ver5 Console - Dual sound card With 2 sound cards on your PC you will need to set the Audio Devices you wish to use in WSJTConsole. By default the Microsoft Sound Mapper is selected in the example below - Audio Devices 0 and 3 for Input / Output.
Looking at the Audio Devices listed in the example screenshot, the Edirol sound card are devices 2 and 5 and these 2 numbers have to be entered in the WSJT Console. When you have set the correct Audio devices in WSJT Console, close WSJT viathe main Program Window.
In the example shown, the sound card selected is an external USB sound card, Edirol UA-1EX, Audio Devices 2 and 5. The use of a USB sound card offers the ability to use it on any PC whether in the shack or out portable with a laptop. The settings in the WSJT Console are typical of a dual sound card installation. How this appears in WSJT Options Window.
DO NOT close WSJT via the WSJT Console as all settings will be lost. When you re-start WSJT you will find the correct 2nd sound card configuration.
