Operating Tips

  • Operating QRG's
In Europe, 50.230MHz is the adopted JT6M random calling frequency. If you arrange skeds, particularly via chat room or cluster announcement, please choose a different qrg, typically between 50.220 and 50.250. Please don't use 50.230 for FSK441.
Note that on a busy qrg (50230) with many stations active, knowing the DF of your qso partner will be of immense help, particularly if you are getting part decodes e.g. rrrrr's.(no callsign).
It's quite common to include a qsy frequncy in a cq call on 50.230 e.g. CQ235 G0CHE would mean that G0CHE is listening on 50.235 and if a signal is heard then will tx also on 50.235 to complete the qso. This is very good method to use when activity is high. Also cq'ing on different qrg is common practice usually accompanied with cluster announcement.
  • T/R Period
Default TX/RX period timings as found in Setup/Options setting is 30 seconds. During good MS activity, try changing to 15 second period (with agreement of qso partner) and preferably not on 50.230. If you are lucky you can finish your qso very quickly.

  • Chat Rooms
If you are in a chat room, please do not copy/paste the decoded text of a qso you are having or are listening to while the qso is in progress. Comments like "good sigs now" or "2 bursts so far" etc. are acceptable ;-) Copy/paste direct from WSJT decode area to chat room is acceptable ONLY after the qso is complete (or aborted). Better still don't copy/paste at all ! Many operators will consider the QSO invalid if this info is copy/pasted during the QSO. Please don't spoil it for others !
  • Clusters
Please spot your JT6M qso on the 6M cluster. This lets others know about activity, and not just those on JT6M scene but helps get others interested. It also helps those involved in  Propagation Studies  - so please also spot the type of prop mode : -
    e.g. 0919 G0CHE 50230.0 HB9QQ tnx jt6m qso MS or 21:14 G0CHE 50.238 GW0GEI tnx jt6m qso TROPO etc..
  • Active Stations
